so, kon todo explain na lang ang ahente tungkol sa holiday package at system ng club astoria. konting demo, with matching laptop at power point pa sya. konting computes, sample rate nila. halimbawa, 800 pesos for a whole week stay in a 5-star hotel sa france.

we should respect how they market the product. The product is nice and useful in our part since we are member already wayback. if you think its a scam then dont buy it.. that plain and simple.

hi gurlash - question lang? it’s been 2months, hinabol pa ba kayo ng astoria para sa legal fees an sinasabi nila? thanks!

Posted by july at March 17, 2009, 12:25 pm

Posted by arlvz at March 19, 2009, 12:54 am

its not a scam… i already used thier gift certificate of free accomodation for two to bangkok. and we didnt pay anything to the hotel, only airfare tickets ofcourse. you should be open minded. with your kind of attitude, you’ll missed a lot of opportunities. and guess what? next month i’ll be using my discount voucher to boracay, its a big help. just imagine how expensive the accomodation in regular rate.

Posted by bluegoddezz at March 19, 2009, 10:37 pm

hello all! i’m surprised that this post has reached the attention of so many people. thanks for your visit, reaction and comments.

however, ian and bluegoddezz, if you will read again my post, i said that it isnot a scam. i’m just telling my first hand experience, and i’m not trying to influence directly, other people’s decision if they will pursue with the programme or not.

Posted by jeremyhk at March 20, 2009, 2:48 pm

actually, im not suprised by this post bout club astoria. ive read a lot of bad comments bout the said timesharing blah blah. it wasnt a scam in fact.. the timesharing/ holiday ownership thingy is for frequent travellers tlga and dun sa bonggang bongga ang kayamanan.. if you join this club astoria thing.. u shud KNOW first the company and the benefits even the policies and procedures of the membership.. hndi ung sige lng ng sige.. iv once attended their presentation thingy and they are just nmn to give me a reward of the free accommodation for bohol in listening to their tedious presentation. and its ok to say no! DUH! kya there are so many pips out there who say bad things bwt the holiday ownership.. and oh.. their marketing strategies were catchy huh.. ive met also Mr. Arnold Gamboa there. the former actor.. i think he is the Customer Relations Manager for the club and he is so nice huh.. thts all>

Posted by gulliverstravel at April 6, 2009, 10:31 pm

asa boracay kami nung alukin kami ng free dinner buffet for two..same thing..after kumain manonood ng 90mins na video..we asked them right away na baka obliged kami bumili ng kung ano man alukin nila.ang sabi samin hindi po, decision nyo po iyon. we went to the dinner buffet after which inexplain na samin everything.. nagdadalawang isip pa kami because baka nga scam sya..we prayed to God na bigyan kami ng sign kung scam sya because we’re kind of interested but afraid to sign up…then..may sumigaw ng welcome to the club Attorney blah and Attorney blah. so sabi namen ayon naman pala may nag sign up na mga lawyer.. so go na tayo… we signed up already…
We are proud to say na Member kami ng CLub Astoria… it is not a scam.. actually
In fact sa states..ganon sila mag alok like free ganito and etc…
Yung sinasabi nyong hindi pede gamitin yung timeshare during Holidays it is because for sure marami members ang gagamit ng free hotel accomodation..and of course it will be unfair to the other members dahil marami ang hindi makakagamit..so to make it fair..hindi nila ginawa un. But instead, meron sila tinatawag na getaway special.. yun pede mo yung gamitin for holidays pero hindi na sa astoria properties but sa RCI na which is more maganda.

So it’s up to you guys whether you’ll sign up for astoria or not… But the fact is .. it is not a scam. they are a legal company and i’ve been at their main office and guess what..a lot of artista were staying there…i saw them.

CLub Astoria is not a scam. :)

I don’t think it’s a scam. They just market their product that hard. You have the option to say no naman. I went there for free lunch with my mom. Kahit pala-bakasyon parents ko, they won’t shell out a hefty amount for a single vacation. Sabi nga ng agent, it’s not for everybody because it’s not affordable. Tama naman. So we said no.

Ang question ko lang: Is there anything else I need to know before I claim the free hotel accommodation they gave me? I know about the deposit (which they would refund naman daw - totoo ba?) and that they would only pay for the accommodation and nothing else.

Posted by anne at May 28, 2009, 4:39 am

funny, even the members doesn’t even know what they have really gotten into. They should read articles about Timeshares and what RCI is. I don’t discount the fact that Timeshares, like the one offered by Astoria is a good product. I just don’t like how they go about selling it. One, pinapapunta ka nila without you knowing kung ano ba talaga pupuntahan mo. Then they make a pitch and ask you to decide right there and then by saying that the offer is not available at any other time. You really can’t make an informed judgement. Is this a scam? I really don’t think so but their practice sounds like unethical to me. I never even heard them or refer to their product as “Timeshare.” This might be because they want their language to be as layman as possible, but i think they should have explained in more detail about this concept specially when they talk about exchange and RCI.

For all of the people who will be invited by Astoria, or similar property developers, please do read first what Timeshares are. There are lots of articles in the net. Don’t be sweet talk by the person making the pitch. And best of all, you need to really think if the investment will be worth it and if you really need it.

I must admit, pareho kaming med rep ng misis ko, pero mas “na-ahente” kami ng marketing rep nila during the dinner. Parang under the gun ka pag-pinagdecide na kayo. All hell broke loose na ha ha! I remember asking the marketing guy assigned sa ‘min, ilang % ang mapupunta sa kanya (around 18k ang peso value ng commission niya pag na-convince n’ya kami).

Anyway, magaling talaga sila mag-target ng prospective buyers. After researching, sister company pala nila ang distributor ng Neo laptops, which is something we bought 2-3 years ago in cash (remember, wala kaming credit cards). They would not waste their time to someone na walang capacity to buy their holiday ownership. So kung tinarget kayo, it’s a bit flattering naman, di ba? (Konting yabang naman d’yan!)

One can avail the buffet and gift certificate and still say no to them (like a case of highway robbery).

Actually, it’s a bit painful yung monthly payments namin, but if you have too much cash to stash, okay naman yung timeshare nila. We’re almost halfway our payments na (and again, it wasn’t easy).

This is not a basic need, luho na lang talaga. I am not the kind of guy who will tell you to buy this or not. You should know yourself better.

Good luck!

Just wanna share my similar experience as well. Minsan kumain kami sa Gerry’s Grill, then before kami umalis pinasali kami sa raffle draw daw. Dagdag malas pa namin ng araw na yon, umulan ng malakas habang nasa tricycle na kami on the way to South Forbes. Medyo mahaba talaga. After eating the dinner, diniscuss na yong price of membership then tulad don sa iba, parang mapipilitan kang kumuha agad that time kasi time pressured yong offer. Nagisip kami na kukuha maybe because of the pride to admit that hindi namin kayang kumuha. Nong sinabi nong sales agent na kung hindi namin sya maisisingit sa budget, she would advice na hwag na kaming kumuha. Then sabi ko, hindi namin sya maisisingit sa budget, this is an investment din but a big ticket-item na medyo mahirap pagkakitaan balang araw and it is not our priority now kaya hindi kami kukuha.
Sabi nga nong nagseminar sa amin, the choice is yours and just keep an open mind.

hi to all, me & my husband attended the said buffet dinner then there’s 90 minute presentation. We agreed to attend since its only walking distance from his office. What I dont like about them is the way they recruit people. So bullshit lang talga. But, it’s all up to us, We say no immediately when offer was made.
So to people who was invited, i am discouraging you to attend this event since it’s a waste of time,

if you recieve a call from club astoria you might want to decline it if you want to save time. don’t be lured on the buffet that they are giving for free. your time is more precious than theirs so why bother going. for those who bought the offer, good luck and i hope you enjoy what you have been promised for 30 years. hahaha! the only good thing i got here is their representative… tsk! thanks club astoria! hehehe!

alam nyo, I was invited den by astoria something, thru a call that i received yesterday, I won a raffle daw thru buying an LCD monitor at PC express gilmore, then they told me that I won a free hotel accommodation for 2, either local or international, and they are inviting me and my husband for a free VIP buffet dinner daw sa hotel astoria at the back of sm megamall, gusto ko nga agad pumunta kahapon kaya lang sabi husband ko medyo duda nga daw siya, kasi bakit tinatanong yung monthly income namin, yun nga yung pagkakamali ko kasi declared dun na yung combined monthly income namin is Php40K, then declared den na college instructor ako at yung husband ko information technologist, kanina tawag pa din nang tawag, and now i finally decided nga na wag na lang pumunta, baka masayang lang din yung oras ko at di ko din masulit yung pagkain, anyway, my time is very precious kaya thank you talaga sa mga forum na to, you are really helping people against evil strategies of some companies, bless you all!!!

from what i’ve gathered sa several forums, the club astoria is a legit business entity. yung sales style lang nila ang pde natin masabing non-traditional or even unethical. I’m sure may nalalabag sila on the onset na policy on fair trade & truth in advertising baga. The problem is, well trained yung agents. From the comments, laging may statement daw yugn agents na “walang pilitan” or “if you don’t have extra money, do not invest” or “choice nyo naman to buy membership or not”…so yun pwede nila lusot na di naman sila namimilit. di sila namimilit but the selling style is manipulative.

to Carlo Lim: ikaw ang kwaw kwaw
to the rabbit: sa RCI affiliated hotel mo ba dinala yung representative? haha

i also had a similar experience sa Bag of Beans :) sige tamang bigay naman ako ng info sa stub nila…i mean what harm could it get! actually last november pa ko nagfill out ng form…

but after finding out many things about “winning a raffle” and all that shit, i started to think na “oh shit!” i shouln’t have given my info at isa rin to sa mga bulok nilang schemes…after all, madaling masilaw sa pera lalo na ang mga patay gutom na tulad ko! pero buffet? haha! i could pay for my own buffet thank you very much!

i truly believe na ndi scam ang astoria as well as philippine prudential life (another company who offers endowment plans, with the exact same scheme)…they may have very good products and services to offer…pero medyo bastos lang at bulok kasi ang marketing strat nila… sobrang invasive and their “chicka” and sidetalks are really time consuming. minsan para matigil na lang ang usapan, mapapabili ka talaga….minsan maaawa ka lang sa agent who really wont get you off the hook para lang makabenta.

This holiday plan scam has been taken to the provinces. Early February this year we loaded up on gas from a Shell station in Naga City. Someone gave us a coupon to fill out, and thinking it was a shell promo I filled it up with my husband’s info. Grand prize was supposedly a trip to Australia. With dinner for two as complimentary prizes. Just this March we were notified of the free dinner for two and were immediately booked for “VIP dinner” at a supposedly affiliate hotel locally(Villa Caceres) aside from this we are supposedly going to get free hotel accommodations as well and were led to believe that it was for a local(Bicol) hotel. I was expecting a really posh and high end dinner, It turned out to be a cheap meal at a table for about 10 with other “winners”. After dinner, we were taken to a quite secluded area of the Hotel to be sales talked into buying shares. We patiently let the salesperson do her job, but my husband and I really had no intention of availing of any offer. After the sales talk we were turned over to the Manager who was to give us the final offer(costs) after we refused the initial and succeeding offers the manager arrogantly told us: “so hindi kayo bibili, kahit magkano offer kasi wala kayo pera, wala kayo trabaho!”(so you aren’t going to buy, no matter how much the offer, because you don’t have money or a job!). Believe me it took a lot of patience on our parts not to slap him right there. The salesperson was nice enough enough to offer to get our gift certificates for the hotel, although i was steaming mad already at that point her nice manner was what kept me from turning into mad woman in there. When we got the gift certificates it was not even for a Bicol hotel, the nearest destination was Bohol. I just wasted my night attending that dinner.
To Shell and Villa Caceres I don’t know if they are aware of this scam since they are using the name of Shell in their supposed raffle, and they are using Villa Caceres as their venue. I don’t even know if there really is a raffle or a winner for the trip to Australia. To me it seems like just a way of getting our information without our consent because I thought I was giving to Shell and to Shell only, not to Club Astoria.

In all fairness to Club Astoria, it is not a scam. It is a legitimate company operating in the Philippines with a different approach in recruiting members. It is up to us to be responsible listeners when they present, after all, we agreed to attend their presentation after the free buffet. Besides we owe it to them to be open to what they are selling since we weren’t made to eat at their hotel at gun point. We were given a choice. We could leave if we want to. The management and staff of Astoria are well educated and won’t force you to avail of their membership naman. I actually went there and was presented to. I didn’t get the membership although it is a very useful thing esp for frequent travelers. Who knows someday we might be able to afford it.

hi, naka sched din sana kami sa sta.rosa laguna for lunch buffet kaso tinamad kami dahil parang masyadong matagal, sabi ko sa agent kung pwede hindi na kami maglunch at kung pwede idiscuss in 30 minutes yung presentation, kaso sabi nya naka program na yung 90 minutes.. kaya hindi kami natuloy, ask ko lang sa mga naging member yung 250k for 30 years ilan days (hotel accomodation) mo pwede magamit in a year? except holidays and weekends ba talaga?tnx

Posted by wacko at June 5, 2010, 7:53 pm

Kakagaling ko from Astoria presentation. Pumunta ako ng 7pm. Nakauwi ako ng 11pm. They throw everything at you but the kitchen sink. I deserve an Oscar for my performance. If I hadn’t pretended to not have even a single centavo for DP they would have kept me there until 2 or 3 AM.

Grabe! Lahat ng sinabi dito happened to me.

It is 06/20/10 at ang inalok sa akin is Php502,000.00 membership with Php8K annual membership/maintenance fee and separate renewal fees for membership cards (1 local, 1 international) of about Php5K. May tatlong scheme sila. Php502K minus 20%, then 20% down of that with balance payable in 36 months at no interest. Or Php502K minus 30% with a 30% DP on remaining amount and the rest payable in 90 days. Last is 40% discount on Php502K, with the balance paid right then and there in either cash/credit card/check.

Ang masama dito sobrang hard ang marketing nila. Nahugot din ako dati sa “Family First” presentation noong 2001…naalala niyo ba yung “Family First”. Ang masasabi ko is super duper waste of time.

Membership ba yun? More pa? Bakit ka magpapakahirap bayaran ang Php502K just so you can get 1wk free stay abroad every yr for the next 30 yrs? Ano perks? 1 or 2 wk stay in a European country for the low price of Php10,000.00 for 4 adults…teka teka…subject to availability lang pala to! So kung wala kang makuha…wala kang murang Euro vacation.

Kahit makuha mo…lugi ka pa rin. Why? You paid or are paying off monthly payments to cover an almost Php500K obligation that this company will use to generate interest in bank and stock market schemes. They will use your money to pay the interest they have promised to others as part of an international chain of companies worldwide rolling money around and syphoning principal payments…Bernie Madoff ring a bell folks?

They can use your cold hard…hard earned cash to fund ponzi schemes, accumulate high value assets, develop real estate that they sell at much higher profit even though your funded the project or simply just increase their net worth and those of their partner firms just by giving “us idiots” 1 free wk at the hotel venue of our choice.

The annual promos available to members of cheap vacations are actually and I quote the manager I met “mga time ng member na nakabook pero hindi kinonsume ng member or mga booking na nagbackout yung nagbook…so in effect po bayad na po kasi na gamit yung free wk nila pero hindi na-consume kaya na-re-recycle na lang po ng company”.–END QUOTE–

So when you avail of the unbelievably low packages is because someone didn’t use their free wk that they put into a 1wk “Italian Seaside Villa Vacation”.

It is not a scam but it is an unscrupulous ploy that preys on the weak minded and soft personalities. So for Php502K, discounted at 20% to Php401.6K with a down payment of Php80,320 and 36 monthly payments of Php8,924.44 you get 1 free wk stay either locally or abroad - food, laundry services, travel expenses such as airfare not included.

Does that seem like a good deal to you? Galing ng arte ko…I gave them partial hints of truth but lied about how “hard-up” I really am and how sad I was about not having enough even for an “employee package” DP to seal the deal.

Oonga pala! Pag hindi mo kaya yung mga scheme nila may “employee package” pa na tinatapon nila kasi “they like you” and sayang naman…meron pang super discounted employees package pa.

I won a free trip for 2 because of some stupid bag of beans raffle ticket I signed.

Exactly like the first post above. If you go to bag of beans use the raffle tickets to wipe your ass after getting diarrhea from the musang coffee. Don’t attend the buffet dinner…refuse the offer flatout. Waste of time. I hate it when people try to take me for a ride! CRAP DEAL TALAGA! You have been warned…

I was in Boracay with my nieces and nephew and a guy name Sonny approach us and invited us for a free buffet dinner. Eh, b-day pa naman nang isa kung niece (June 28, 2010), so pumunta naman kami. When we get there before the dinner, we filled-out a form and then one of their Managers “Dhel Aguilar –nickname nya natandaan ko” told us na may 90 mins na discussion or presentation for their new hotel sa Boracay.
After our dinner one of the agents Lizabelle Patrociano approached us in our table asking if we’re done coz the presentation will start. We started around 9pm and finish at almost 12. We’ll they got me in for the trial package of 5 years with the amount of P136,000 to be paid in 3 years. I was required to pay the 10%. I paid using my credit card with the amount of P13,600.
The next day June 29, 2010 I spoke with my bf and he didn’t agree on joining he timesharing since he has beard a lot of bad stuff about this. Plus, the service offered were not favorable for the members since they tend to control your travelling time based on the availability of the hotel room. Secondly, we checked in the net and we found out some unlikely comments about Club Astoria and RCI. On the same day I went back to the hotel where we had the presentation and I spoke with Mr. Dexie Dato-on (maintenance manager who also signed the contract). I was wondering nga bakit sya yong management representative at hindi si Dhel na sya naman yata ang mas knowledgeable. Anyway, he told me na sa gabi pa daw dadating ang ma staff. It seems all the agent and managers work at night since they operate at night for the so-called buffet invitation. Unfortunately, we also need to to fly back to Cebu at 1pm. When I got home in Cebu I send a text message to Dhel and Liza but I didn’t get a reply. Then I started calling them and only Dhel answered my call. She told me just to send a letter of cancellation on the email posted on the documents they gave me. Marami naman yatang email add at iba-iba bawat form. I send an email to all the email add just to be sure. However, until now I didn’t get any reply from them. It’s been 3 days since I sent them an email. NOW I’m having a HARD time chasing tem while THEY have been very accommodating during the presentation and registration. If this is not REALLY a SCAM, they should follow the right business protocol or least those provisions written on their so-called contract “ unotarized contract”

Mag Ingat po kayoooo sa Club Astoria…

Dear Owner,

I'm Mr. ———, Owners Relationship Manager of Club Astoria. This specific forum on your site titled "Club Astoria. scam" was hurting the credibility of our business for years now. It has already generated into argumentative exchange in which several individuals created multiple screen names in order to mislead the readers as to the source of complaints. Some responses are very offensive and that Club Astoria is not a scam. Would you help us if your policy permits to delete this title in your forum? We hope that your management will support us on our intent and we expect a favorable reply from you soon.

By the way, Tripadvisor was very helpful in deleting offensive responses in their forum and already closed the topic so that further posts may not be added in the discussion.

There’s always karma! remember that…and i cant wait to see that to club astoria..
